starsthatshine: (mars: hello mrs wallace)
Still pulling out a general request of a header to my journal to whoever feels charitable ;) Fandoms: Doctor Who, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Life on Mars, X-Men, Sarah Connor Chronicles and/or X-Files. I'd love to have at least three different fandoms in the header. (Sorry if I'm being a pain, I hope I'm not :))

Huge happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] feminosity.

I'm suppose to write a speech for Swedish class based on the theme Truth and Fiction, which is easier said than done. I'm in sheer panic-mode. I'm supposed to be prepared tomorrow and I don't even have a SUBJECT. And to make things even more hellish, I'm suppose to use the material which exists in a little leaflet and it's close to impossible.

We had a UN roleplay yesterday at school and I was a delegate for Saudi Arabia and according to various, completely unrelated comments, I was best dressed. Awesomeness.

Greek

Just a quick note to say that I've watched the pilot episode of Greek today and I must say that the show does hold potential. It serves as some sort of entertainment. More to follow on this exciting development. It's sort of nice to watch something that's not... overly serious.

Also, I won a pen today in class (we had this sort of spelling test in English and I scored 18/20 *headdesk* I forgot the extra M in accommodation and a S in discipline but anyway, I scored 18/20 and won a pen). It was sort of fun, even though according to one of my classmates it was really expected.

Now it's food!!!! *runs* Apparently I've been talking about nothing but food for the last two hours. So I guess I'm hungry ;)
starsthatshine: (firefly: take me home)
Some French students (apparently the majority of them were born '92) are coming to school tomorrow and they're going to stay here for a few days. They are a part of the exchange program that my school is involved with. Even though I'm going to Brest sometime this year (last time I heard something it was late May), no one is staying at my place. We can't afford it, basically. Besides... by Swedish standards, my family is a little bit odd.

I'm sitting at "The Study Corner". It's this activity or whatever, that happens once a week that I started at my schol that gives students the ability to study at school once a week outside the schedule and the school provides something to eat so that our blood sugar levels aren't too low. Today I am alone. Which is sort of lonely. There's this Christian group that's started that nabbed the same time as the Study Corner and at least two of those that are involved in that group are regular visitors here so I'm going to see if I can't... persuade them to change the date. It ain't that fun eating all the cookies by myself.

I had this great idea the other day. Another project I really want to start at school and that's a school newspaper. Sort of... I don't know, useless since it's such a small school but I think it would be fun if the Swedish school system turned out a bit like the American one where you can choose extra culicular activities. I'm going to use my Jedi mindpowers to persuade someone... persuadable to help me on my mission towards total school domination.

Anyway, when I get home I have to bake a cake for the welcoming dinner which we're throwing for the French students and read a chapter from the Intercultural communications book. Oh, such a gripping life I lead ^^

Man, I still have no idea what I wanna be. The future is a scary, scary place.
starsthatshine: (charmed: cute but quirky)
I'm really interested in installing Linux/SuSE on my computer I have at home. The last time I installed or reinstalled or whatever the computer was back in 2002, which is a really long time ago and well... Linux is a very shiny program which I like. The only problem is that the version my dad uses is a little bit weird because it doesn't allow us to install any programs or play media files. Which is sort of what is necessary for me in order to function in Internet world. But Linux is so shiny and a lot more safe than Windows. And if I install Linux, I won't be able to go back to Windows.

What am I going to do? I really want to have Linux, but if I can't play media files or install anything, I might just die. Basics such as Firefox or Opera or anything like that would be gone.

What do you think? Any ideas of what might cause this inability to install programs or play media files? As far as I know, we've tried everything.

Oh, I forgot to tell you all, the last couple of days I've spent either watching Criminal Minds (I bought season one :D) or having my nose pressed against a psychology book reading about Freud and all these interesting things. I don't even have psychology until next semester, but I love the idea of understanding people.

Do you have any good suggestions as to what kind of books that are a good read if you're interested in Psychology? Like... text books and stuff.
starsthatshine: (buffyverse: there for you)
Ergh, my brain really seems to go to sleep early now. It's eight o'clock and my brain is going to sleep-mode. I think I need to re-establish naps, because my brain stops working, which is not something I approve of. Another thing that I'm going to change is when I'm at school. When I have a sleep-in morning (Mondays don't count because I NEED that sleep-in in order to function), I'll go into school and work on things instead of sleeping in. And I'll try to stay an hour or two after school so that way I might get some actual school work done, such as mathematics or essays (we have a bunch of those).

I hate when my brain falls asleep like this. I get seriously uncreative, and word blind, I barely have any focus etc. and it makes me write the most uninteresting entries. I think I'll pop in Sweet Home Alabama in the DVD player and spend some time watching that (I love romantic comedies and Reese Witherspoon is awesome and I never get sick of SHA). That will probably wake me up. TV shows unfortunately don't really have that effect, for some reason.

Huge welcome to [livejournal.com profile] cloiser_trish, I hope you'll have a good time on my flist (I don't really talk about Smallville that much since I don't really appreciate it in general - save season six and like... four and stuff - but hopefully you'll find my entries interesting anyway).

Is it just me or this song one of those that you never get sick of? *points to 'current music'* I can listen to it a lot, although I haven't lately, not counting right now. It really makes me wanna buy Bridget Jones' Diary on DVD (that movie is so sweet, I need to buy more romantic feel-good comedies - I love them but I don't have them in my collection).

Edit: Hi Buffy-nostalgia, this icon and the rest I have uploaded really makes me wanna rewatch this series. I just need S6, then I have the entire show LMAO. I have 1-5 on complete DVD boxes, then I have the latter part of S7 on DVD and the first part burnt on DVD discs that someone sent for Christmas *hugs whoever sent it*

I'm still here but during my break I felt like nothing really happened in my life that was worth sharing so therefore I had a bit of a LJ hiatus. But I'm back in full power now that's school started! :D I realized today that I have to write an essay about the pros and cons of imperialism till tomorrow, so if you have any thoughts, feel welcome to share ^^

Also, huge happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] okelay, [livejournal.com profile] ky_rie and [livejournal.com profile] fridizh :D

I really suck at PE. I have this huuuge fear of balls and we had volleyball and I spent most the time staring at the game. Poor team mates of mine. I think I'm gonna try and get something done at home, because I feel as if I need to start making an effort.

Anyways, gotta go and struggle with this essay. Procrastination is never good.

Squeee! I think I might just have finished the Philosophy paper that I was going to write for English class! Call it divine inspiration or something ;) Anyway, I would love you to bits and pieces if you could read it through and tell me what you think. If there are any grammar errors or if I need to develop something or if I've missed something. To those who want to know the subject it's whether or not we have free will and I feel as if this version is actually something I can stand for. Something I could turn in and sort of be proud of.

Still not quite recovered from last night's squee attack (Sarah Connor Chronicles is taking over my brain) since I stayed up till 1.30 am and made a Derek/Cameron video (I'll post it later if you want) but hopefully things are going to go well nonetheless.

I think I finished with my History paper. Maybe. I'll talk to my History teacher today. We'll see. Hopefully.

Just wanted to remind anyone who hasn't taken a look on this post to do so. I have this Philosophy paper that I'm writing but I've never had Philosophy and I need constructive criticism on how to improve whatever I'm writing. It won't take long and I would forever appreciate it. ♥

Huge happy birthdays [livejournal.com profile] xhangingaroundx and [livejournal.com profile] truly_blessed, I hope you have amazing ones because you are awesome and deserve lots of presents.

HELP!!

I don't know but most of you have probably heard me bitching and moaning lately about a Philosophy paper I'm writing for English class (it was a while since I mentioned it now...) anyway... I thought I'd consult you, lovely flist, and possibly ask for some assistance in this matter. I mean, is it possible to go to jail for murdering an essay? If it was ever possible, I think I'd definitely be convicted. I have this interesting topic of free will and I think I managed to make it about as exciting as a pineapple. I even made two versions. Both of them horrible.

Anyway, if you could look through them (they aren't long. They aren't even a complete page, at least not separately) and just give constructive comments. I've never had a minute of Philosophy so I have no idea how to think or such so therefore I'm really nervous.

I have a Spanish test today and I'm really nervous because instead of studying I spent my time uploading icons ([livejournal.com profile] justbolognese, thank you soooooo much! *megahuggles*) and writing on my crack story. Because it was so much fun. And also, I read Le Mur. Which wasn't due for another x amount of weeks. Keep your fingers crossed? ^^

Anyway, I'm off to wash my face :D
starsthatshine: (gossip: something beautiful)
It kinda hurts having six userpics. I know that if I ever get any kind of money (or well... a credit card), I'll invest in more userpics because having to choose between the.... X amount of icons I have saved (I think it's actually up to something like 7000 without being dramatic) is torture. All those Sarah Connor Chronicles, X-Files, X-Men, Doctor Who, Being Human, Gossip Girl, Supernatural etc. icons that I have to pass down because of the lack of space :( Woe. I don't know why but sometimes it's just... liberating on such trivial matters as a shortage of icon space.

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] coffeegirl18, I hope you have an amazing one.

Things to do this week:

- Finish that History paper I've so glamorously "forgotten"
- Do Spanish test
- Read "Seven Spiritual Laws to Success" (pfft, I like reading those sorts of things because well... it's an interesting read)
- Do a 'Why we should all watch Being Human'-post
- Finish the second last episode of season one of X-Files and start on the second season. Oh, Krycek, I can't wait for your evil face to appear on my screen ♥
- Do English test
- Do Being Human icons
- Work on my John/Cameron fansite (anyone interested in giving a hand?)

Anyway, as you might imagine, I will have quite a few things to do, although most of these things probably won't take long. And therefore, I'm going to ask anyone, who is willing, to give me a plot which I will write a story out of. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just so that I'll start writing something. Preferably something fantasy/young adult/supernatural thingy because well... I feel like writing something like that.

I don't know why but I became in the mood of writing something corny like:
Kevin, a seventeen year old vampire lord, has to battle with English tests, hormones, a coven of angry, vengeful witches and, of course, another clan of vampires moving in on his territory.

lol. I amuse myself. Anyone interested in reading that? I guess I'm looking for something to write where I don't have to be 100% serious all the time.

Oh, and I finished reading 'Le Mur' of Jean-Paul Sartre (easy reader!French, of course, since I'm not that strong in the French language) YAY! :D It's about three prisoners, right?, that get sentenced to death during the Fascism (is that the correct term for that period of time?) and this one guy is being sentenced to death because he refuses to give the military information of the whereabouts of someone and just as he's about to get executed he gives the military false information, thinking it would be funny to send them on a wild goose chase, but he ends up not being executed because it turns out they found the guy at the location he said. Did I understand the story correctly?

It's sort of uncomfortable now when they're doing construction work a few yards up the street from where I live and that warning signal starts and then when they actually detonate the explosives, you can sort of feel the ground shake beneath your feet and the house a little as well. Not dangerous or anything, but uncomfortable in the sense that I've never experienced it before (although it does sound like when the snow falls from the roof in late winter/early spring).

My math teacher is sick with the flu so I only had two lessons today (score! 140 minutes and an eternal lunch if I wanted it to be so) so I got home as fast as I could. Although I think I'm going to be like... a good student and study a little later on.

I love listening to the radio. The discussions on the channel I like are always interesting. For example, right now they're talking about being naked in inappropriate places. Like being locked out while you're locked out etc. Yesterday they talked about racism.

Snagging this from [livejournal.com profile] myfingersburnt:
Reply to this post, and I will list three things I love about you.Maybe more than three. Then repost to your own journal and spread the love.
starsthatshine: (spn: does these tacos taste funny?)
I had this really embarrassing thing that happened to me today before PE which involved me speaking French and God... I really love the language, but c'est impossible pour moi apprendre la langue. At least not speaking-wise. And I really want to get the information stuck in my head, so in attempt to save my declining French (or something) I got a hold of three French language courses. Hopefully, they're going to help me out. And I've decided to watch a bit of A Very Long Engagement (the only French movie I have, I bought it since I couldn't find Amélie) every day in hope for something to happen. Keep your fingers crossed!

Apparently Gossip Girl starts again April 21st or something, which I think is good news. I think time is going to fly by and I'm so glad that GG will start airing again. It's the perfect show to relax and just watch out of pure enjoyment. It's not as "serious" and prestigious as other shows can be. For example, the angst on Supernatural (♥ that show) is pretty hard to digest and sometimes it's so larger than live that it's... just... out there, you know? It's such an overload of emotions sometimes that even though it's a fantastic show with fantastic writers and staff and whatnot, it can be difficult to watch just because of the heck of it. Gossip Girl isn't like that. You can sort of watch and make fun of the show without feeling that you're betraying something. Sort of, does that make sense?

I seem to have some sort of template as of late how my entries are being written. First something personal, and then I end with a fandom musing.
starsthatshine: (heroes: i'm always here if you need me)
I made a Phoebe/Cole picspam this morning. I'm that pathetic (but oh, it's so lovely :D). I think my childhood crush on Julian McMahon has returned, at least partly.

School is perhaps not stressing me out but it's making me partly uncomfortable. I feel as if I've got eight hundred things to do. Extra credit in Spanish, English (two, count 'em - two), and then I have the rest of the stuff my class as. And that means a History assignment which I can't write (I've realized it's physically impossible), French (I have to find some sort of comprehension test and no one works for me)... Needless to say I'm feeling a bit... overwhelmed. I think my weekends need to be longer in order for me to relax. Two days is nothing. :D
starsthatshine: (celebs: heath: in loving memory)
I really like this icon.

I just saw Torchwood. I really liked the episode, especially the drama bits, however I wasn't so fond of the alien bits with the whole minor cut ) Torchwood can really be good sometimes, but it often comes across as rushed and as if it's a parody of itself sometimes. However, I think all the characters really made a great performance this episode (it's not really a spoiler so I'm not cutting it). I especially liked special person under cut and spoilery thoughts )

Can anyone tell me the benefits of an international market with minimum state influence? I'm doing this debate tomorrow and I have no idea what to say.
starsthatshine: (atonement: an act of kindness)
I suppose everyone has heard by now that Heath Ledger was found dead in a New York apartment last night/yesterday. I usually don't comment on these sort of things (usually because they aren't a regular occurance) but man... I find it so tragic just because it's... tragic. He was 28 years old, more than half of his life in front of him, had a daughter and well... Every death is tragic, because it means such a great loss for so many people.

I don't know.

And this day just keeps getting odder. It's 5 minutes after we've started class (or at least supposed to) and I'm ALONE IN MY CLASSROOM. Not a single soul is here. I don't know why but I have a feeling this is going to be an odd day. Have I missed anything?

Also, I have a French test today, keep your fingers crossed.
starsthatshine: (heroes: i'm always here if you need me)
I'm screwed.

Ok, perhaps not in such a dramatic sense, but I'm suppose to do this poem analysis for Swedish class. Which is fine because I know exactly what I want to say. But the words seem to have failed me. I can't write a single good sentence for the life of me. And I have two days to compile this essay into something that's comprehensible. I think a part of me have preformance anxiety because my previous poem anaylsis was apparently perfect. Which makes things difficult.

However, I just realized that I love classic music, you know Bach and stuff. I have a couple of tracks on my computer and it's such a joy to listen to. I think classic music captures the essence of music and it can be something so incredibly beautiful, something music with vocals doesn't quite measure up to.

I'm thinking about changing my layout since my paid account expires in 12 days - what do you think? Or should I just change the header? Or should I leave it be?
starsthatshine: (heroes: sylar favourite serial killer)
I've heard school is extremely educational and to demonstrate this, I'm going to make a list of what I've learned today.

1) All the teachers at my school get together and watch Heroes. And apparently everyone loves it - everyone, except my Spanish teacher that is.

2) Bunch of different Swedish authors and poets and their lives.

... I think that's about it. My other lessons were mostly just discussions. But the first bit of news is what I wanted to share with you. I have a school who LOVES Heroes. I'm certain we'd be able to watch an episode in English class for Shannon (English teacher - apparently other countries don't call their teachers by their first name - do you?) because he likes that kind of stuff and I remember when he asked me if I had downloaded any episodes because he'd missed a few when he was in Ghana.

... I need more season one icons uploaded.
starsthatshine: (dw: the mystery unfolding)
Do you ever have the feeling that you want to write but you have honest to God no clue whatsoever what. I feel like writing something fandom related for the first time in a long time. I guess it's just fun to play around with other people's characters and make them all these crazy things. Sort of like playing with doll houses but in a more... non-direct way. I'm as mentioned before, feeling the Heroes love, but unfortunately I think I need a brainstorming partner. Anyone game? I have a few ideas of where I want it to go but I can't make sense out of it.

Another eight days before Torchwood starts again. In these worrying time with a writer's strike, it's wonderful that there are some British shows that you can rely on (although they might not be the best in the world). But Jack/Ianto! I'm excited nonetheless and this season seem to top the first by far.

I got an email from my English teacher. Apparently he called the company that was going to supply me with my Cambridge Proficiency workbook, and it's due Friday - again! I swear, it was weeks/months since I ordered them but... oh well, I suppose everyone deserves a break now and again. But keep your fingers crossed because I want it now so I can study for the exam. I need at least a B, which I don't think is going to be a problem, but since it's going to cost a lot, I really want to be sure that I'm going to ace it (or at least get an A) so that the money is worth it.

Also, I made a Joan of Arcadia vid which you can download here. Spoilers up to 1x12

School tomorrow :)
starsthatshine: (his dark materials: lyra)
I really shouldn't be posting as I have to go and pack because I'm going to my dad's (that always stresses me out more than anything) for a week and I haven't packed yet. In honour of me now having my Christmas break, I will not pack too many "pretty" clothes. I'm talking soft I'm-going-to-sit-in-the-sofa-all-day kind of clothes. Since my dad doesn't have a wireless Internet access (why oh why not?) I won't be able to come online that much and whatnot so the drabble things you requested will have to be postponed (I won't forget, I PROMISE!). With me I'm taking The Golden Compass and Atonement. Yay for holiday reading!

I actually won't be bringing my laptop with me to dad's because it's kind of pointless to have it there if I can't access the Internet. Computers without Internet is for most parts useless anyway. I will miss OpenOffice though.

Our teachers were hilarious at our Christmas ending ceremony thing. I can see if I can get [livejournal.com profile] lauren_sark to give me the pictures I took so I can post it here. They were awesome! They made songs about the students, acted out a play which featured the faculty "off-stage" (i.e. outside the classroom at the teachers meetings). If you'll get to see the pictures, you'll understand how awesome it was.

Also, on Saturday I'm off to watch Enchanted with a couple of friends. It's going to be awesome!
