I am a firm believer in the saying: Plunge in and find out if you float. Okay, maybe not (and I totally made that up, which was kind of obvious). I'm thinking about writing a story about magic (not the 'waving a wand' kind of magic but you know... herbs and candles etc.) and I'm thinking about including vampires and werewolves. I'm currently writing a very detailed outline. Also I'm trying not to be all too critical (I know it sounds as though it's going to suck) but I see it like this - it's about seeing if I can write 50,000 words, not win the Nobel prize. I've sort of have this idea of this kid named Brian... I can't remember his last name, anyway, he's Irish and his parents divorce and he moves with his mom to the countryside, where he meets Cassandra who sort of introduces him to the magic craziness... It sounds awful, but I think I have the possibility to make it decent :D
I voted no, BUT if you can make the time and have nothing else important you should be doing, I say go for it. I have exams in November and that's why I have talked myself out of doing it. =)
