Doctor Who thoughts :D

I've finally caught up on Doctor Who and I have a few comments about it. Putting both episode thoughts under cuts in case there's someone like me who can be a bit... behind sometimes.
The Unicorn and the Wasp:
This episode was bloody brilliant. I really liked Doctor and Donna's interaction in this one. I really like the BFF relationship they're having and the never ending "is she your wife?" thing actually works with me. I think it's hilarious, just as the kiss that they shared when Donna attempted to "shock" the Doctor so that he wouldn't die of poisoning. I don't really consider myself a "shipper" of Doctor/Donna but I really love them together. I guess I wouldn't mind if they got together and I definitely don't mind if they don't.
The mystery story was a bit predictable at times (for example, that girl being the Unicorn etc.) and I'm not sure how I feel about that whole "obsorbing information" thing that was going on but it's Doctor Who and I suppose it works. Two thumbs up :D
Silence in the Library:
I really really really don't like River Song. I just... don't, for some reason. I guess I don't mind that they were (or will, depending on how you see it) romantically linked but I'm far from a huge fan. I just hope that we never have to see it. As far as who that girl is, I have no idea. I've read ideas that the girl is River Song (which makes absolutely no sense) or that she is a computer or something (don't understand that).
Someone I did like though was the girl who died. Not because she was pretty or anything but it would've been nice if we'd seen more of her character. Normally, people who are stupid are simply two-dimentional and stupid, but it would've been nice to show that "even stupid people have feelings" or something like that, which I think was briefly touched upon. Sometimes I think that, in general, characters are made stupid so they have an excuse for being two-dimentional.
This episode was not a favourite of mine and, to be honest, I can't believe it's a Moffat episode. Sure, it's interesting story-wise but... I guess I expected more.
I think in general, my love for Doctor Who is returning, thanks to TUATW, even though SITL made it slightly bruised. I can't wait for new episodes (although I'm not looking forward for next episode that much, it will just be nice to have things resolved I suppose).

Date: 2008-06-01 11:35 am (UTC)What's weird about her being like the Library's computer? This is sci fi after all, seems like big AIs pop up every now and then. And it's sort of like Matrix with the real world not being real and yadda yadda. Maybe a way too keep the computer sane *shrug*

Date: 2008-06-02 05:14 am (UTC)I liked Silence in the Library but I'm reserving my final judgment until seeing next week's episode. I pretty much hated River Song. She was really arrogant, entitled, off putting, and for someone supposedly so close to the Doctor didn't seem to understand about not discussing future events with people they haven't happened to yet.
