So... Here is my review for the Angel episode Heartthrob, 3x01.

The episode starts with Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn, walking into Hyperion: dirty and exhausted. Here I think that it was kind of important to show how the characters handled Angel being away; sure they had been without Angel before in season 2 and managed really well. But this time without Angel I think it was somewhat easier to do stuff: their fighting abilities had grown, Wesley isn't in a wheelchair anymore and Cordelia's visions was offcourse more effective, but put her out of the game after a long while.

Then, after that we have a new scene with Angel, showing kinda how wrong they were of how he had it where he was. Wesley had said that he needed: "peace and quite" and then we see him fighting (dressed in a horrible white thing). And it shows that Angel soon is about to come home, since he had his normal Angel mode on: he fights, then leaves. This is seriously not one of my favourite scenes with the man. And the whole thing about 'should have gone to Las Vegas' were kind of out of character for me, how I see Angel.

Now we've come to one of my favourite scenes in the episode: Angel returns. At first, Cordelia let's out a yell of surprise and then instantly hugs Angel, welcomming him home. This shows how close the friendship is between the four people: Wesley, Gunn, Cordy and Angel. I'm not a fan of Angel/Cordelia as a couple but friendship - that's a huge fan in me there. I really dont know what more to write in this scene.

Now Angel is back and offcourse, Cordelia is fishing for presents and that's another thing that I love about the scene. She thinks she gets a dead head but Angel corrects it and gives it to Gunn, who's grateful. To Cordy he gives a necklace and to Wesley a knife. The knife part of the present giving thing is according to me, the humor for the episode. I adore how Wesley asks Cordy if she feels any visions comming along, that's another reason why I'm Welsey/Cordy fan.

After that we see Fred in her room, seeing everything she has written down on the walls and I just love how she wants everything to make sense and therefore writes it down. It's lovely and it's filled with Fred/Angel friendship, which I think is important to let Fred see, that Angel cares for her and that she should come down with the rest of them and just hang...

The whole thing interrupts with a scream from Cordelia, who's having a painful vision again. This I wont mention anything futher since it's just something to get the story going. When the gang gets there, they have cleared out but Angel follows and jumps at them on their car, saving the people and stakes the blonde vamp. She asks: "Angelus?" before he stakes her and he realizes that it's a friend of Angelus'... kinda. Annoying but it's a cool storyline that we've seen like a thousand times in stuff like 'Somnabulist'.

Next we are in Cordy's appartment and we see how well Phantom Dennis takes care of her and I just love that. I think Phantom Dennis really cares for her and they don't say anything really: except that Cordelia compliments him. It's a beautiful scene but with tragedy in it, and I'm really thankful for the scene.

And then... Another flashback... Have I told you how much I love a flashback? They are like the best things there is in the world. I can't survive without one. But Angelus here isn't really, what I'm use to. He's just...boring. So this scene didn't get so many points from my point of view.

After that we get to see 'What's his name', who lost the vamp girl and he's heartbroken about it, and kills the messanger that comes with the news of his beloved's death. After that we get to see some Cordy talk with Angel, I hated it but it was important that it was there.

Another flashback and we get to see Holtz, as you all know will play a huge deal in this later on... *grin* I love how Angelus talked to him, and explained how Holtz holds a special grudge against Darla. Adorable! :)

Now we have another short clip thing when the 'What's his name' gets his heart cut out. Another scene that wouldn't have been cool if it were longer but this episode has so many short clips that it buggs me. Anyhow, what's his name gets to Hyperion and Angel thinks he's staked him, runs to Cordelia and says "It's over." they notice after that what's his name isn't dead and Cordelia yells 'Over in what sense?', adorable. And also we get so see that Fred takes Angel's advice and get's out of her room but he yells her to go to her room, and she obeys. So many attempts are ruined in that moment *lol*

Now over to the subway scene, a scene that I think was brilliant because they ended it so well. The mentions of Buffy (but Cordelia saying: "We try not to say her name too much" really spoils a bit of the moment) and the ending quote: "I lived... You only excisted." was amazing and I loved it. I'll end this with those short words since the ending scene is totally amazing between Cordy and Angel, and it doesn't need more saying.

Heartthrob is one of my very favorite Angel episodes. I ship Angel/Cordy hardcore, but I think it would have been better for the show if they hadn't gone there. Their friendship was so much fun to watch. It was probably my favorite part of the show.

Nice review!

Nice review. My favourite part of the episode is when Angel returns too when he's all hugging everyone. Also Wesley and knife is so funny, I love it. I'm not much of a fan of Angel/Cordy either but I love the friendship that they had. I think 'Heartthrob' was a pretty good way of dealing with Buffy's death without being completely in-depth with it and showing that both the show and Angel had and could move beyond it.
