Chapter 1 - A Stressing Day


Haley didn't really understand the whole fuzz about the newly opened basketball court. Sure, this city was centred around the sport but didn't they even have the decency to shut up during a test?

Haley looked down on the paper, trying to shut out the giggles and talk from the girls in the back of the classroom, while anxiously
hitting her pen softly on the table. She hated school and everyone in it, with a few exceptions.

Haley made a face of anger; she just wanted them to shut up. She had 5 questions left together with 20 minutes time. If she didn't get the best test on this... She didn't care; she told herself, considering the test atmosphere, anything she got would go, as long as she was passing. 'Can you say lie?' Haley thought angry.

She didn't understand the paper, she saw the words and she knew what they meant but on the same time not, that was the problem. She just wrote something quickly down and moved on to the next question, before she knew it the teacher said that the time was out. Haley wanted to scream and hit the table but instead she turned up her head to the teacher, giving her a fake smile, which she bought since Haley was the good
kid.

Haley gave Mrs. Matthews her history paper and quickly turned her eyes out the window, wanted to shut out the panic over how the test went. She heard Mrs Matthews telling the girls in the back of the class that if they did something like this on the next test they would be thrown out and get failed. Haley sighed; it was a little late to tell them that now she thought.

Haley met her best friend Lucas outside of the classroom, who as always gave her a welcoming grin. Haley was slightly shocked seeing him there and not being outside drooling over the new basketball court like the rest of the male population of the school.

"Hey Haley!" He greeted smiling like he had won a million dollars.

"Lucas..." Haley didn't hide her surprise
the least. "I thought you were out drooling over the new basketball court... that or Brooke..." Haley gave Lucas a teasing glare. She knew very well about his feelings for the cheerleader, she had seen him look at her.

"Very funny Haley." Lucas commented and smiled at her, as he put an arm on her shoulder as they walked to their lockers. "You know you are the only woman for me..."

Haley this time gave away a huge laughter. "Yeah, together with half of the females on this school..." She gave him a friendly hit on his chest.
"Come on, we'll be late for class."

"You know..." Lucas said as they walked they opened their lockers. "They really should make the breaks between classes longer..."

Now they were sitting by the bench in the PE lesson, waiting for Whitey, who was temporarily filling in for their normal PE teacher who was on parental leave. They just made some casual small talk while waiting, they were strangely early today.

"Come on the kids!" Whitey called on the teenagers’ attention,
which he got, and they moved to stand in front of him.

"Well... I've got nothing really do tell you all kids so why don't you start to do 4 rounds of some good old fashioned running and then you pair up in teams and then start to play some tennis. And I want to see people MOVING, none of that standing or just throwing the ball back and forth. Got it?" He gave them a vague smile and signalled to them to start.

Haley smiled at Whitey, she liked him, and he always said something that made her smile. She started running softly, with Lucas next to her.

"So... What do you think of the basketball court?" Haley asked her friend, realizing she hadn't asked him that yet.

"You know, it's just a basketball court..." Lucas smiled, both knowing that he lied, basketball were like Lucas' religion. They continued running for a while, making those six rounds that Whitey had asked for, after that they were just about to team up with each other as Haley saw Brooke bounce over to them. She was about to giggle, she liked Brooke.

Lucas caught that glimt in Haley's eye and
started to feel sudden worry. "What?"

"Bye Luc..." Haley giggled and waved at him, going and pairing up with Peyton, a girl she barely knew. She heard Brooke's cheerful voice asking Lucas to team with her.

Haley shook her head, Lucas' love life were just sometime to entertaining that she couldn't
help giving it a hand a little from time to time.

When Haley got home she was totally beat, she have had a challenging PE lesson and was looking forward to a good well deserved rest. Suddenly a voice irrupted her thoughts:

"How did the test go?"

The simple question
brought everything back to her, the killer test have had before, fear from what her father would say if she said that it went OK.... Why wasn't she just a normal girl?

"Good I suppose..." Haley said and gave her father a challenged smile, which he didn't know. "I'm going up to my
room..."

"Okay..." Haley shivered as she walked up the stairs.
