Boys Over Flowers Introduction Post

Ok, I'm sitting here eating dinner (pasta and meat balls - AGAIN! Only fourteen meat balls left... Maybe tomorrow... I will eat something other than meat balls. But I love them, we're just going through a rough patch) and I don't know... because of my sometime obsessive persona, I've gone on a little photoshopping spree and I'm loving Boys over Flowers. I've watched all the episodes that have aired so far (how looooong till the next episode I ask, how loooong?) and I've even managed to get some art done. But right now I have to admit that I'm really hoping to share this show with you so therefore I introduce.... My Introduction Guide to Boys Over Flowers. Warning for potential crap.

Boys Over Flowers
I think the most basic thing that you need to know about this show is that it's based on a really popular Japanese manga and it's been shot in several different versions (Hana Yori Dango - which is Japanese - is probably the most well-known but there's also Meteor Garden - Taiwanese - if I'm not mistaken) and now it's been adapted by Korea. And it's my favourite. To be brief on why I prefer BOF over HYG (which I know some of you don't ;)) is basically because of characteristics. While I can't say I remember too many details from Hana Yori Dango, I do remember that the characters were (in my opinion) a bit stereotypical. The character which is the best example of this is Domyoji Tsukasa/Yoon Ji Hoo, but I'll get to that later.
The basic premise of the story (at least in this adaption) is that a girl saves a guy (we'll call him Other Guy after this) from committing suicide and that causes her to be somewhat of a "celebrity" and therefore she is enrolled to a very exclusive school because the chairman (err, woman...) of the board/company owning the school, wants to prevent the school from being closed down because of the criticism the school is put under after the incident. Anyway, she is enrolled to the school and she almost immediately gets off on the wrong foot with the bullies which had driven Other Guy to want to commit suicide. The bullies in question are a group called F4 (stands for Flowers 4 if I'm entirely off base) who are all individually wealthy and sons of famous/rich people and they control the school while having lots of crazy fangirls following them around, doing their every bidding.
To sum it up, they can fuck up your life, extremely.
That's sort of the basic idea of the show. Or at least where it starts out. Then there's a lot of character detail which are important to the plot so instead of explaining everything that happens, let me introduce:
Geum Jan Di

She is the main character and she's pretty fearless, strong, independent but in a way sort of childish. I think she's pretty fierce although she has a tendency to get saved a lot but that's mostly because of romantic/dramatic effect rather than lack of any personal ability. Or at least that's what I think. She's the daughter of a dry-cleaner and well... she's poor. Not entirely as rich or classy as her classmates.
Goo Joon Pyo

Take in his hotness for a moment.... *pauses introduction* OK, shallow moment aside, this is Goo Joon Pyo and he's the leader of F4. He has an occasional idiom problem (he misuses them) and is stubborn, occasionally slow, prone to violent behaviour but really a sweet guy. He's got a mother from hell, a pretty cool sister who isn't entirely unlike Jan Di and more money than he can spend. If this was a Jane Austen novel I would say that he's my Darcy. I won't go into spoilers since this is an introduction but well... the whole show is basically about the relationship between Jan Di and Joon Pyo so there's no secret that they are going to pwn you all ♥
Yoon Ji Hoo

But of course, not everyone approves of Jan Di/Joon Pyo as much as I. In fact, this guy (Ji Hoo), might want to see things turn out differently. He's a member of the F4 and sort of the third main character in the show. In the beginning he's the only F4 member that seems in any way gentle and kind towards anyone and a connection is formed between Jan Di and him. But he's lovesick on a model/childhood friend but after going to Paris to pursue her, he comes back with his eyes set on Jan Di. And let's just say that he can sort of give Joon Pyo a run for his money. If I were to give him an Austen character that would be Ji Hoo/Jan Di friendly, I'd say he would be Colonel Brandon (from Sense and Sensibility), but to Jan Di/Joon Pyo shippers he could be seen as a sincere and kind version of Wickham (sans the sisternapping, of course). He's really pretty but has a tendency to emo a lot. And when I say a LOT I mean, A LOT. I think he's supposed to be the sort of "deep, sensitive type". Needlessly to say, there's a pretty messy love triangle.
So Yi Jung

To be honest, he's gorgeous but I never really learned his name until later on in the series. Not because he's redundant or anything, but for some reason calling him 'Casanova' was completely sufficient. He's sort of the manwhore of the group. Think Britney Spears' 'Womanizer' playing in the background and you've got Yi Jung in a nutshell. But like any other character in this lovely drama, there's more sides to him and *rubs hands together* It's awesome. I won't say more than that.
Song Woo Bin

Here's the man that gives underrated beauty a face and a name. To be honest, I know nothing about this character from the Korean drama aside from the fact that he sometimes calls himself 'Prince Song' and can by using that name scare away thieves... but now I'm jumping ahead. He's not as predominant as Ji Hoo or even Yi Jung, but he brings a sort of awesomeness that is difficult to describe. I like him nevertheless.
Ga Eul

Unfortunately I can't remember her surname right now but she's Jan Di's best friend in the whole wide world and she's also supercute and... I can't say more but it's awwwwweeesome. Or well, I could say more, but I don't want to spoil it. Besides, I'm probably being superobvious anyway ;)

This has to be the prettiest cast pic I have yet to find... Even if they all look somewhat depressed, you cannot deny the beauty of the cast ;)

Jan Di/Joon Pyo ♥ ♥ I love these two sooo much. I think they're wonderful. I could post like a zillion pics but I've decided to just post two, so that I don't spoil you. Even if there's a lot of WONDERFUL scenes that I would love to show you.

Ji Hoo/Jan Di

*sigh* Such underrated beauty...

Let me know if you need more convincing as to why you need to watch this show ;)
Oh, they're all up on YouTube. Just search for something like 'Boys over Flowers ep 1 part 1 eng sub'
