Just when I think I understand the UCAS system, it goes and turns a 180 on me.

Per usual, I have a few questions (once I've sent in my application, I won't be so spammy, I promise):

Seriously, I know I'm repeating my previous question but I need answers:

  1. When you apply through the UCAS system, do you list all the subjects you are interested in taking or just the one(s) you are going to take as honours?

As I understand it, you just put down your honours subject. There should be a course code to go with it. When I applied, I put down five different universities and the course code for biochemistry.

Can I ask which uni you're applying to?

Eeek. Confusion *goes crazy*

I'm applying to St Andrews, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow and one other I haven't decided yet. I wanna do English Lit but I also wanna study a little of Politics and so on.

Words cannot describe how stressed I am over this.

Yikes. I just took a look at the St Andrews online prospectus and it confused me.

I suspect part of the problem is that each university has a different way of organising their course structure. St Andrews looks are if it has a modular points structure, where you take so many compulsory modules in your honours subject. They say:

Study in the first two years is flexible and gives a
chance to sample subjects in addition to the ones you
applied for.

You might want to email the course director or the admissions department to check but I think you would put down your honours subject and then choose other subjects when you're accepted. I couldn't see anything to say what subjects you would be able to study in addition to your degree subject. Again, you might want to check to see whether politics is an option. I know from experience that timetabling difficulties can arise.

I did find the course code for English - it's Q300 (http://portal.st-andrews.ac.uk/admission_subjects/subjects.py?subject=English). If you follow this link (http://search.ucas.co.uk/cgi-bin/hsrun/search/search/StateId/DDR5VGbqd5qKtY3CbbtIm0EZCk5YA-37Nx/HAHTpage/search.HsKeywordSuggestion.whereNext?query=224&word=ENGLISH&single=Y) to the Ucas site you can see the course codes and the university codes. St Andrews code appears to be S36.

Did you find that quote on the website?

I'm also sitting here, trying to puzzle together an application. It's going sloooow.

I found it in the online prospectus (http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/admissions/ug/Prospectus/) on this page (http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/12-13%20Choosing%20your%20Degree.pdf).

I remember how stressed I got over mine so I feel your pain.

To boot to this stress, I have the world's worst principle (really, I swear), I have at least one 100 point course (= 100 hours which is basically a course which goes through the entire school year) that I have to manage and create on my own as well as 12 other courses which are either 50 points (one semester) or 100 points. *sigh* Madness. AND I have to learn this UCAS system *headdesk*
