Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] malicat! I hope you'll have an awesome birthday :D

Feel sort of as if I'm betraying the Doctor Who fandom by actually using a Firefly icon for my entry (yes, I'm that in love with the fandom again even though I do basically nothing besides think about how it would be like to watch it). However, to make myself feel better I have come to a conclusion that enables me to discuss DW related things.

Torchwood. Yes, I saw the season finale with my sister yesterday and I've come to the conclusion that Torchwood isn't as good as Doctor Who (honestly, can anything be as good as that wonderful show?). However my main concern is the writing department. Eve Myles is extraordinary, John Barrowman can act as proven in DW without coming across as overly cheesy (which he sadly does in Torchwood :( ) and Burn Gorman I saw even before Torchwood (I saw him in Bleak House and I was like 'what the... is Guppy doing in Torchwood?'. I actually called him Guppy until I learned his name).

They have this fantastic cast but sadly the writing doesn't match the quality of performance given in the episodes which makes some, most of all JB, come across as flat and somewhat over dramatic and given some cheesy lines. I'm not at all saying that RTD should come and write the entire second season to show how it's done (don't forget that some episodes were good when it came to writing but I'm basing this on the season finale which are the most recent episodes I've seen).

I really hope they can make Jack sound emotional without being cheesy or flat.

I'll end the mandatory DW talk with this:

(servants take in a jukebox)
Cassandra: And this, according to the acient archives, was called an I Pod. [...] Let's listen to a classical ballad...
(Britney Spears' 'Toxic' starts playing)

... Now I suddenly forgot everything I was supposed to say.

Ehm.... I'll leave it at that :D
