My first unsuccessful application

Edinburgh just rejected my application.

I'm a little bit bummed, but not entirely heartbroken. I know that regardless of where I end up, I will make my best to learn, which is essentially why I'm there. What bothers me most perhaps is that I don't have a reason for the unsuccessfulness of my application which is perhaps the most bothersome. I don't think I'm sad, but I guess I'm disappointed in a way. But I know I did my best so to be honest there was really nothing I could do.

But so far my status goes:

Aberdeen - English (Conditional)
Dundee - English (Conditional)
Edinburgh - English Literature (Unsuccessful)
Glasgow - English Literature (Conditional)
St Andrews - English (Acknowledged)

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that St Andrews will accept me into their programme, but even if they don't, I'm perfectly content going to Glasgow.

Thank you *hugs* I'm sure it will too. But as I said, the thing that bothers me most is that the reason for my rejection was left completely blank and I'm this kind of person who need to know why the application was seen as insufficient.

It must be frustrating. My first choice uni rejected my application as well with no explanation except that competition for places had been high. Most of the time that's what it boils down to, unless an applicant doesn't have the grades.

Or an insufficient PS, as St Andrews told my sis. But I guess that they sort of ran out of places.

It's sort of funny, I can't wait to go to uni, but at the same time I know I will miss my hometown Umeå/Sweden a lot. Funny how that happens :P

Aww, I'm sorry. :( I got rejected by my first choice college too, last year, and I was pretty upset. I know how you feel about not knowing the reason for the rejection - here in the U.S. most colleges just tell you that there were a large amount of talented applicants and that they couldn't have room for everyone.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you as well! Though I'm sure everything will work out - I mean, I'm here at the college that definitely wasn't my first choice, but now I can't imagine being anywhere else.

I think a lot of people feel that way about going to uni. It must be particularly strong for you, though, since you're going to be studying in another country.

I guess what makes it most difficult for me to get really upset, except the obvious 'damn..... I was hoping for this' feeling, is that I don't really know what I'm going to be missing out on, since I've never been to Scotland or anything like that before. I take it as a positive thing in this case. I think it was a case of space, because that's what the status letter on UCAS implied. They said that it was a highly competitive course and so on.

Thank you so much! :D I'm absolutely certain that no matter what happens, I'll end up at a good place. And I mean, if I find out that my choice isn't my thing, I wouldn't totally mind apply somewhere else or go back home. I figure that it's most important to try and expect the most positive things without being naive. If that makes sense.

I'm so sorry, but I am sure everything will work out in the end. You have many other options, still, so be proud of that!

&hearts I'm sorry to hear that. Try not to get too bummed at rejection letters; as long as someone wants you, that's all that matters. I was rejected by my three top choices with no explanation, so you're not alone. &hearts

I'm sorry, honey, but I PROMISE you'll be happy wherever you end up. I had to go to my second choice school because of financial reasons, and even though it took a few weeks to totally get on board, I absolutely love it here and couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

I'm sorry about that, it can be quite frustrating but don't let that get you down, you have other offers, and I'm sure it'll all work out for you in the end. At least you have a chance to do what you want after all :)

Sorry to hear that Edinburgh rejected you application :( Perhaps you could email/call and ask them later on why your application was unsuccessful? Maybe they'll disclose the reason to you. But in the end, it's their loss, they could've had a kick-ass student in their department :P

Yeah. And I've never been to an English speaking country before, so imagine the cold feet I'm going to get just before. But whatever, I say that it's better to try my wings and fall than never spread them at all. :)

Definitely :D I'm excited over going nevertheless. Education is just a tool anyway, not a finishing product. It's gonna be great no matter where I go. I can be in the best uni ever but if I don't apply myself, then it sort of doesn't matter that I'm at a "good uni".

Phew, that's good. I'm member of this forum where it seems like everyone are getting accepted to their top uni so I'm sort of comforted by the fact that I'm not alone :)

Definitely. And I mean, there are a lot of people who can't afford to go to uni and not get in at all, so in that aspect I'm really fortunate :D

I'm thinking about it but ultimately I think it's about a limited number of places and that perhaps they didn't have enough of my grades (I have a lot of pending courses) to make a decisive decision so they decided to reject me. Maybe.

A lot of people don't get into their top choices, and for a lot of reasons, from whose parents have money, what schools they were fortunate enough to attend, space, grades, activities, blah blah blah. So don't take it as a hit to your intelligence or pride. Plenty of bright people don't make their first choice, but going somewhere is better than nowhere at all. X3

Oh dear, well, at least you have those other applications to look forward to! *hugs*
