What I was thinking when I let Micah not talk to Molly is that I mean... he's figured out that she's keeping secrets from him, not telling him stuff (and god, does she ever?) and him being the socially awkward teenager and all, he doesn't want a confrontation so when he thinks she doesn't see him (he was across the lawn, a bit away), he doesn't approach her. Something like that.
