I think what makes Pitty authors like the pairing is that I at least believe that they have similar backgrounds. Kitty is a fosterchild (or lost her parents or something, I seriously forgot. or did she have her parents?) anyways and with all logic in mind, Pyro probably killed his. I think that their dynamic would be similar to Bobby and Pyro's but not quite so similar. I think that Kitty would sort of know all the tricks that Pyro had and so on.
